Wildfire Designations
Shelter-in-Place
Shelter-in-Place Designation

With meticulous attention to building and maintenance standards, Cielo is one of the few communities in San Diego County that has earned a Shelter-in-Place designation by the Rancho Santa Fe Fire Protection District.

To be considered Shelter-in-Place, a community must be built to specific standards designed to greatly increase the chances that the homes will survive a wildfire, including ignition-resistive roofing & eaves, fire sprinklers, tempered windows, and approved landscaping with defensible space.

More detail about Shelter-in-Place may be found in this brochure from the Rancho Santa Fe Fire Protection District.

As a recognized Firewise USA® site, Cielo homeowners may be able to obtain a discount on their home insurance. A copy of our Certificate may be found on our website.
Fire Risk Reduction Community
Fire Risk Reduction Community

The California Board of Forestry & Fire Protection has established a Fire Risk Reduction Community list. This is “a list of local agencies located in a very high hazard severity zone that meet best practices for local fire planning.”

Both San Diego County and the Rancho Santa Fe Fire Protection District qualify for this list.
Despite these designations, if evacuation orders are issued, the Rancho Santa Fe Fire Protection District recommends evacuating, and evacuating early, if it is safe to do so.

By working together as a community, Cielo is safer from wildfires!
